Humax Enters Digital Home Entertainment Market And Announces
UK Launch. - Sep 11, 2003
London 11th September 2003: Humax, one of the world's biggest
TV set top box manufacturers has announced its intention to
enter the UK market with a range of digital home entertainment
products. It will focus on producing first-to-market products
that will combine Digital TV Receivers with recordable Hard
Disk Drives (HDDs) and other home entertainment devices. The
new CE product range and brand philosophy were unveiled for
the first time at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin,
earlier this month.
Humax will establish itself as a major consumer electronics
brand by building on its global leadership position in set
top box technology to develop differentiated products that
provide an even richer digital multimedia experience for the
consumer.
In September 2003, the company will begin the roll-out of
an impressive array of products which combine a digital Freeview
receiver with DVD players, PVR recorders, followed by 17·±
and 30·± LCD TVs with built-in Freeview receiver in the coming
months. The company will also launch a DVD recorder and AV
amplifier aimed at the home theatre market.
Humax has opened a UK office in London and has made two senior
appointments: Dale Heathcote, formerly Director of Sky In-home
Service and Commercial Director for Dixons Stores Group, has
taken up the position of Commercial Director; and Brian Barker
joins Humax as Sales Manager, bringing with him experience
gained at Grundig UK Ltd and Toshiba UK. Most recently Brian
was responsible for the successful launch of Netgem in the
UK.
Dale Heathcote comments:
"Humax has embarked upon an exciting new phase in its
development. We will be focusing on two key areas: we will
aim to differentiate Humax in the fast-growing market for
Freeview digital receivers with an innovative range of combination
products and we will simultaneously launch high-quality audio-video
entertainment systems. Digital technology is transforming
the home entertainment experience and Humax intends to be
at the forefront of an exciting new era of consumer electronics."
Brian Barker adds:
"Discussions are already well-advanced with several national
accounts who have recognised that our products can fill a
gap in their existing portfolio. By being first-to-market
we believe we can make a significant impact in the competitive
UK market. The success of Freeview has proved that UK consumers
are more than ready for digital products that enhance their
experience of TV viewing."
