- Humax
to Supply $30 Mil Worth of Set-top Boxes to Turkey
- Humax to supply Turkey's largest satellite broadcasting
operator Dogan TV $30 million worth of set-top boxes
from this month to end of 2007
- In strategic partnership with Dogan TV, Humax also
plans to supply HD set-top boxes
(July 16, 2007) Global digital consumer products company
Humax announced today its entry into the broadcasting
operations market in Turkey. Humax will be the first
set-top box manufacturer to do so.
The exclusive $30 million contract was executed today
with Dogan TV, Turkey's largest satellite broadcasting
operator. With the contract, Humax will begin supplying
set-top boxes from end of this month to the end of
the year.

The set-top boxes, developed exclusively by Humax,
are SD format set-top boxes compatible with Dogan
TV's broadcasting and to be directly purchased by
the satellite broadcasting operator. BEKO, a local
consumer products distributor, as well as other distributors,
will take part in distributing the products to local
consumers.
"This supply contract with Dogan TV will enable
us to create a future strategic partnership to distribute
HD set-top boxes and an array of other products to
the market," said Dae Gyu Byun, the chief executive
officer of Humax about the deal.
- Humax partners
with Pioneer to penetrate the Japanese cable set-top
box market
- Humax and Pioneer to supply removable external
PVR set-top boxes for the first time in Japan
- Worth $10 million annually, starting in the third
quarter of 2007
(June 18, 2007) Global digital consumer products
company Humax, announced today that it is partnering
with Pioneer to jointly supply an annual $10 million
worth of external PVR (personal video recorder)
cable set-top boxes to cable broadcasting operators
in Japan beginning in the third quarter of this
year.
Humax will be supplying its BD-V700 set-top boxes,
which, along with cable broadcast reception, allow
users to conveniently record and play back programs
and connect to a removable external hard drive.

While set-top boxes with standard internal hard
disks are available in Japan, this marks the first
time an external PVR model is introduced in Japan.
Unlike the internal type, the BD-V700 boasts a large
capacity hard disk to respond to the growing consumer
demand for recording broadcasts and the ability
to continue using the external hard disk even when
the set-top box needs repairs.
"Humax has been supplying set-top boxes to
broadcasters in Japan," said Dae Gyu Byun,
the chief executive officer of Humax. "But
this contract is especially significant because
we're able to enter this particular sector jointly
with an already well-established Japanese consumer
electronics maker."
Moreover, according to the company, in a market
known for being fussy about quality, Pioneer, a
local powerhouse of set-top boxes, has recognized
Humax's advanced technology. Humax expects the deal
to provide a firm foothold in the Japanese market.
After establishing its Japanese subsidiary in 2001,
Humax became the first-ever non-Japanese company
to supply set-top boxes to local broadcasters, including
the country's largest satellite broadcasting operator
SKY PerfecTV since 2003 and the cable broadcasting
operator J:COM (internal PVR type set-top boxes).

- First to supply MPEG4, H.263 format HD set-top
boxes to Korea's cable broadcasting market
- Dominating domestic HD market with SkyLife satellite
HD set-top box followed by cable set-top box
(February 7, 2007) Global digital consumer products
company Humax announced today that it will start
supplying Korea's first MPEG4, H.263 format HD set-top
boxes developed in-house to CJ CableNet in the first
half of the year.
Featuring the country's first MPEG4 format service,
the Humax OC-5000 HD set-top box leapfrogs existing
standard definition (SD) technology with better
video compression technology and provides users
with an abundant variety of high-quality HD contents.
CJ CableNet is set to perform a mid-year test broadcast
for a month, with regular programming to start in
August.

in the market.

first satellite HD set-top boxes to SkyLife, the
one and only satellite broadcasting operator in

contract firmly places Humax in a dominant position
in the domestic satellite and cable broadcasting
markets.
Established in 2000, CJ CableNet is the largest
Korean cable broadcasting operator, currently servicing
more than 112,000 households. Humax has been continuing
its partnership with CJ CableNet, since having started
supplying SD set-top boxes (OC-2500) to CJ CableNet
beginning in 2005.
