Unlike
common home appliances, a set-top box requires extremely
sophisticated software to run it. In addition to successfully
preloading set-tops with Open TV that enables interactive/data
services, Humax has developed the proprietary middleware,
which allows the operation of supplementary services.

Broadcast
operators in different countries use diverse versions
of CAS (Conditional Access System), the system that
allows the viewing of paid broadcasts, one of the
unique features of digital broadcasting. By forging
alliances with a variety of CAS providers-Viaccess,
Irdeto Access, Canal+, NDS, SECA, Nagravision, CryptoWorks,
Conax and Betacrypt-Humax offers the most versatile
CAS support in the world.
Our
in-house technical capabilities extend to the design
of intricate, versatile hardware and semiconductors
(ASIC). In the digital home appliance industry, the
strategic alliance between core semiconductor provider
and system manufacturer can be a key element for both
parties in staying at the forefront of cutting-edge
technology. By maximizing our strategic partnerships
and in-house system design capabilities, Humax intends
to maintain our leadership position in the global
market.

Having
entered the STB market in its infancy, Humax has been
able to garner extensive field experience and in-depth
expertise. By accommodating market demands and exploiting
our own technical know-how, we are able to continue
assuring the quality of our products worldwide.

Receiving satellite
broadcast service requires inserting a smart
(IC) card into the receiver and decoding the
incoming encrypted signal. The CAS (Conditional
Access System) makes this type of restricted
access possible, and Humax offers a wide variety
of CAS-embedding solutions. |

Middleware
is the program that connects a receiver's operating
software for the central processing unit and
memory unit with the programs received from
satellites. Developed by Humax, this middleware
enhances and supplements the receiver's software
functions. |
